FRANKFORT, Ill.
Every year, many Christians all over the world contribute an annual tithe, 10 percent of their wealth, to their local churches. Though she attended church, author Heidi Guttman often skimped on her tithe, choosing to focus on her diamonds or new sports yacht. She would soon learn how very valuable her tithe would become.
In her new book "Riches to Rags to Riches: The Power of Tithing" (published by iUniverse), Guttman shares her personal story of redemption from materialism while highlighting the power of church donation.
At one point in her life, Guttman says she gauged her success based on the possessions she owned. She lived in a beautiful townhouse, drove an expensive car and wore fashionable clothes, jewelry and furs. Her child even ate from a leather highchair, she says.
Everything changed when Guttman's finances took a turn for the worst. Her material possessions gone, she vowed to get them back and fill the empty void within her, but she soon realized that what she really needed was a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Through tithing, Guttman realized how her materialism had distanced her from God. She began to reap spiritual rewards and felt personally restored by God. She hopes to effectively illustrate the power of tithing to her readers through "Riches to Rags to Riches".
