In his debut book, author Harold K. Gruver tenders poetry enthusiasts a riveting set of poems, high spotting limericks. Titled Limericks for the Ladies, he expresses his views, inspirations and affection through succinct words and rhymes which entertains as much as it inspires. Featuring a stream of short-versed poetry, he sensationally puts forward the art of poetry with stunning ingenuity.

A distinct form of poetry, a limerick is composed of five lines with a strict rule of bubbly rhymes and rhythm. The first two lines rhyme with each other, the third and fourth rhyme together, and the fifth line is a variation or a repetition of the of the first line. Although the origin is still being debated, what is for certain is it already has been used since the early 1800s owing to its popular use the world over.

Gruver employs this style to express his fondness for the girls whom he admired and reciprocally inspired him to write. Instead of approaching them directly and conveying clichéd lines, he takes his time to put in writing his appreciation and eagerly fitting the appropriate number of syllables and the right mix of rhymes in the process. His poems transmit an irresistible degree of authenticity of his feelings in tandem with witty and comical remarks.

The pieces in this exceptional collection are dedicated to real girls whom the author based the actions and representations. With every piece a masterpiece, each poem stands for a distinctive character and individuality appealing forcibly to the minds and hearts of readers. In point of fact, the poems in this engaging volume are titled with names to which it was actually written for.

"Nearly all the girls have a copy of the poems I wrote them," notes the author. "Sadly, in the process, some of the poems got lost."

As Mark Twain would have it put, "the difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter-it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning." Leaving no room for doggerels and winding elaborations, Gruver must have had this line down pat for this amusing anthology. With such limits imposed by the poem's style, he efficiently puts into clear-cut verses and meaningful rhymes what he intends to communicate in Limericks for the Ladies.
