Clinical counselor and author Barbara Kiao knew she wanted to write a book to help others, but the subject matter eluded her. After helping several of her clients through relationship issues and experiencing a divorce herself, Kiao realized what she needed to write about. "Holy Divorce: A Mindful and Spiritual Act of Self-love" (published by Balboa Press AU) is her new book to help readers understand the tenets of a healthy relationship.
"Holy Divorce" looks to empower the reader to examine his or her relationship and discern its current state. Kiao uses anecdotes to let readers know that they do not have to suffer through an unsatisfying relationship. Through her book, Kiao wants to give readers the tools to repair beneficial relationships or the strength to leave toxic ones.
The book's format is a dialogue between a client and her counselor. The client has discovered her husband has been cheating on her. It is through the conversation with her therapist that the client learns how to love herself and lead the life she desires.
"I want the reader to be inspired to do some soul searching and to learn to take responsibility for his or her own life and happiness," Kiao says. "The key is to always look within instead of outside yourself."
