In Jan Hurst's new book His Sunrise My Sunset ($12.99, paperback, 9781498474412; e-book, $6.99, 9781498474429) readers will see that every person faces their own challenges in life, but learning to trust God and rely on faith, accepting that His plan is best, can carry us through very difficult times. Although this is Hurst's testimony, the story could be told by just about anyone. We all face devastating circumstances at some point and we need to be prepared with our faith now because we do not know when our time will come.
Hurst says, "We built our lives together, both coming from dysfunction of some sort, starting with nothing, and yet became quite successful, and raising a loving family. But, within months of reaching our planned fun retirement, our life together ended. In spite of that, I have survived with the foundation of strong faith and loving family. Nothing is guaranteed in this life. I believe what really matters is to know Jesus."
Jan Hurst was raised being told she was just a girl. In spite of being discouraged from college, her husband and she both worked to achieve bachelor degrees while working, moving, and raising a family. Hurst continued her adult education to achieve an MBA and PhD in business management and worked to become a female executive at a time when women were not prevalent in IT. She had to change jobs frequently as a trailing military spouse and learn to adjust. Hurst also learned persistence, which was the most important characteristic next to faith.
