Clint, an American born son of immigrant parents from Nigeria, is dissatisfied with his life. Against his parent's wishes, he followed an urge to travel to Nigeria to reclaim his identity. There, he discovered among other things that his great grandfather had been a house slave to a chief and had lived through the British invasion of the area in late 19th century and the introduction of Christianity. Readers will follow his story as he traces his ancestry and discovers more about himself in the process.

Through a man finding what seems like a lost identity, the author is able to depict what life has been for Nigerian slaves way back during the British invasion. By drawing a window to the past, Shields is able to provide an apt depiction of the colorful culture and history of her native Nigeria and encourages Nigerian immigrants, like her, to be proud of it. A story of a man and of a nation, "His Return" is a compelling read for all Nigerian natives and immigrants alike.

About the Author
Nwanganga Shields grew up in Arochukwu, Nigeria and currently lives in Bethesda, Md. She retired from the World Bank and is a widow with four adult children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Shields studied at University of St. Andrews and American University. Her first book, "Ejituru," was published in 2013.
