Variety reports that HBO has inked a deal for a limited dark comedic drama series titled BIG LITTLE LIES, featuring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and adapted by David E. Kelley.
Witherspoon and Kidman will star and produce the drama which will center on "three mothers of kindergartners whose apparently perfect lives unravel to the point of murder." Kelley will adapt the series from Liane Moriarty's 2014 novel.
The show will be similar in form to HBO's "True Detective" model which starred powerhouse duo Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The limited series format gives big Hollywood A-listers a chance to work in in TV without making an open-ended commitment to an ongoing series.
The site reports that Witherspoon and Kidman optioned the rights to "Big Little Lies" through their respective production banners. The number of episodes has not been announced.
