Graham Collier believes that understanding the brain leads to a deeper understanding of the human spirit and the meaningful content of one's day-to-day activities. In his book, "What the Hell are the Neurons Up To?: The Wire-Dangled Human Race" (published by AuthorHouse), the successful author of several books on art and creativity explains the duality of the brain and its understanding of stimuli taken from the five senses of the human body and the imaginative world of the mind.

"The contemporary way of life is desensitizing human consciousness. The result is that the faculties of intuition, imagination, empathy and spirituality are at risk of a progressive decline," says Collier.

An excerpt from "What the Hell are the Neurons Up To?":

"Whence Come We? What Are We? Whither Do We Go?

Such was the title given by the great French painter, Paul Gauguin, to one of his later works painted in Tahiti in 1987. He words could well serve as the title of this book, for they ask the unfathomable questions that we have been asking ourselves throughout recorded history questions born of uncertainty concerning our human status in the material world, niggling away in consciousness, and provoked by the idea that some mysterious truth lies lurking behind the surface of life as we know it."

Collier hopes that readers will take away a "greater understanding of the neurological marvel of the evolved brain".
