Every five years, a remote village receives - however unwanted - a strange and hostile visitor. Tales about the perilous gusts of wind are as terrifying as the actual devastation it leaves in its wake - shelters shattered, lives lost, people misplaced. In "Cuando La Soledad Duele" (published by Trafford Publishing), author Gladys Correa tells this untold story and the remarkable tales of courage that persist even "when loneliness hurts." The new release is part of the fresh marketing campaign launched for the 2014 book.
Set in a fictional town in a fictional country, "Cuando La Soledad Duele" follows Jerónimo Esquivel, a man who arrived at the villages four days after the subsiding fury of the bad winds, which whipped the regions, and the peasants rightly called "bad anger." Jeronimo came to these lands and soon word spread that bad winds had left in its place a man. This man filled the villagers with apprehension. Through Jeronimo's perspective, the humble life of the village and its people are portrayed, the poverty that inevitably came after the disaster and the stories that come alive as they try to overcome the adversities of a barren, unforgiving land.
The author draws inspiration from her experiences while growing up - both authentic and creative intuition. The portrait of Jerónimo Esquivel himself is patterned from her father, which the author describes as a living epitome of goodness and humility.
A moving narrative that speaks volumes about the intensity of human experience in the force of overwhelming odds, "Cuando La Soledad Duele" bares raw truth about living and existence. It also serves as a tribute to those who are forgotten - those who roam the words with no hope, those who abandoned their illusions as well as those who exist without existing.
Excerpt from "Cuando La Soledad Duele:"
She remembered with sadness, the torment of her childhood, the Summit of angry silence, where she quietly grew up, and where she harshly learned the depth of despair.
