Through Jeronimo's perspective, the humble life of the village and its people are portrayed, the poverty that inevitably came after the disaster and the stories that come alive as they try to overcome the adversities of a barren, unforgiving land.

The author draws inspiration from her experiences while growing up - both authentic and creative intuition. The portrait of Jerónimo Esquivel himself is patterned from her father, which the author describes as a living epitome of goodness and humility.

About the Author
Author Gladys Correa was born in Colombia in a town near the city of Armenia, called La Tebaida. She is the author of the novels "Regreso Inesperado" and "Cuando La Soledad Duele" as well as a book of poems called "Cuando Mas Te Amaba" which include the poems "Frente al Mar," "Agravios," "La Higuera" and "Adversidad" among others. Gladys Correa currently resides in New York.
