Acting on advice from his former psychologist - who is retired from the DIA, FBI and CIA - author George Mattheson offers readers his new novel, "Enigma: Born as the Hand of God" (published by Trafford Publishing), which draws heavily from his own experiences dealing with the effects of living with a mental illness.

"Enigma" gives readers a revealing look into the mind of a person known as Enigma, who is diagnosed with schizophrenia, following him from birth to adolescence and more. Enigma converses with God through the archangel Michael. However, Enigma is also the son of intelligence operatives, so he isn't quite sure who Michael really is. Could Michael be just another Clandestine operative for the CIA?

An excerpt from "Enigma":

"He proceeded to say I needed to believe him for he was the true archangel Michael sent here to protect me. I asked him to prove himself as the real archangel Michael. He then started to make it thunder and rain with such an intensity I had never seen before. He said he would unfreeze the three impostors and that I should not tell them about him but I would be able to see and call him through time and space. If I ever needed him, I just had to call him for I'm one of the seven vassals of God. Up to now, I still don't know what he meant."

Written in first-person narrative, "Enigma" puts a personal spin on understanding schizophrenia. Mattheson says, "Even though you may have been diagnosed with a mental illness you can still function in society."
