George Brosky, a retired navy commander and hospital administrator, has completed his new book "An Exciting Day in the Life of Maria, Speedy and Skinny": a charming portrait of growing up in a developing society.
During a business trip to the Philippines, Brosky was moved by the state that a super typhoon left an orphanage in the town of Sorsogon. He personally funded the rebuilding of the establishment. "Since the Filipino children love to read, (I) built a library in (my) orphanage, which is supplied periodically with new books by Aliiolani School in Hawaii. (I) hope (that this book) will bring joy not only to the children of the Philippines but also to readers everywhere."
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, George Brosky's informative tale functions both as a piece of children's literature that introduces the reader to a positive female character and as an informative work that provides a perspective from which to compare standards of living between less developed islands in the Philippines and the reader's expectations.
Maria Elena is in many respects a typical girl. She loves school, her family, her friends, her pet, and holidays. Growing up on a small island in the Philippines affords her a more simple life, free from the complications that force children to lose these innocent kinds of love too early.
However, the simple life is not always the easy life. Maria Elena will come up against situations that are not so quietly brushed aside by a "no worries" philosophy, including a medical scare, unidentified flying objects, and a destructive storm.
Readers who wish to experience this inspiring work can purchase"An Exciting Day in the Life of Maria, Speedy and Skinny" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
