In, "A Man Named Jesus: A Story" (published by Inspiring Voices), Gayle Rose Calmes' new Christian-themed historical fiction novel, readers gain powerful insights into what it would have been like to live during the time that Jesus lived, died and was resurrected - the beginning of Christianity.

"Imagine you were alive in and around Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago, just trying to live a simple life of work, family and survival," says Calmes, setting the stage for the premise of "A Man Named Jesus." "How might the crucifixion and all that followed affect you personally, whether you believed in God or not?"

At its core, the book surmises that people have been basically the same throughout time, struggling for healing, hope and faith. "A Man Named Jesus" introduces readers to an ordinary family living in a small community near ancient Jerusalem. They struggle with the challenges of cultural transformations during the time of Christianity's infancy, but they also deal with timeless family issues.

Calmes hopes readers form meaningful connections with the story and discover inspiration in the lives of the characters. "I would like them to find hope by acceptance of their own doubts, fears, feelings and even actions as one of God's family of broken people," she says.

All proceeds from book sales will be donated to the Backpack Ministry at Bethany United Methodist Church, Austin, Texas, providing weekend meals to elementary school students on assistance programs who otherwise would go hungry. For more information, contact http://www.bethany-umc.org.
