United States Prison System
Part 1
The United States has the largest prison population in the world. (2.3 million people) To put things in perspective, China has 1.3 billion people and the US has 310 million people. China has 1.6 million people incarcerated. People often say, China just executes everyone, that is not true. In China, crime is a disgrace on the family and in some studies, they have a high suicide rate because people can't handle disrespecting their family. No matter the reasons, the US needs to fix its broken prison system.
We need prisons. Prisons have a purpose. We need to hold people accountable and take dangerous people off the streets, but rehabilitation has to be a major component of incarceration. Sadly, the US fails miserably on who is incarcerated and rehabilitation.
I was in prison for eleven years, and deservingly so, but people do change. I have firsthand knowledge and experience on ways to fix a broken prison system known around the world as the worst prison system in the free world. A black eye on the greatest country on the planet. The real question is, do the powers that be, WANT to fix the prison system?
In Part 2, we will address how the prison system works.
