WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ On Tuesday, October 21 st, the publishing house Books & Books released a new title that takes on the role of technology and innovation in improving education quality.
Focusing on education in Latin America and the United States, Educacion 3.0: The Struggle for Talent in Latin America was officially launched yesterday at an event at The Brookings Institution in Washington, DC. The event included remarks by the author, education expert Gabriel Sanchez Zinny, and brought together leading education policymakers and thought leaders from both government and the private sector.
"As the nature of the global economy has shifted, education quality is more important than ever. Both personal success and national competitiveness increasingly depend on what are known as '21st Century skills' skills that qualify workers for success in higher value added industries and position them to be entrepreneurs and innovators," said Zinny. "Much as the industrial revolution necessitated a paradigm shift in education in order to train a modern workforce, the changes wrought by technology and globalization require that we rethink how we educate our citizens."
Educacion 3.0 addresses this need for educational transformation, both in the United States and Latin America, by telling the stories of the educators, innovators, and entrepreneurs who are pushing the envelope in their respective fields.
In making these arguments, the book draws on and synthesizes numerous sources of data and analysis, from academic studies to interviews with leading experts and practitioners. These include data from the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the U.S. Department of Education, UNESCO, the Inter-American Development Bank, The Brookings Institution, and many others.
"Gabriel Zinny strikes a hopeful note for the potential of the private sector and online learning to extend access and scale quality to solve the acute educational challenges facing Latin America as well as Hispanics in the United States," said Michael Horn, co-founder and Education Executive Director of the Clayton Christensen Institute.
"Gabriel writes the best blog on education in Latin America," said Andres Oppenheimer, a Miami Herald columnist and CNN en Espaol anchor. "He has a unique perspective that draws from both academic research and business experience on the field. I am sure that Educacion 3.0 will become a must read for anybody interested in helping Latin America improve its education standards."
"Our education systems are failing to provide our students with the kind of 21 st century skills they will need to thrive in the modern workforce," said Zinny. "That is why we need to welcome the new players non-profits, NGOs, entrepreneurs, philanthropists that are getting involved. That is Education 3.0."
The book is now available in both print and Kindle formats from Amazon.com.
