Author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn, whose book Gone Girl has spent nearly two years on the bestseller list while the film version has gotten excellent reviews, admits she may never experience this kind of moment again in her career, she tells Rita Braver in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast today, Oct. 5, 2014 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

Flynn, who also wrote the screenplay for the psychological drama about a marriage gone bad starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, realizes this level of attention rarely happens twice in a career.

"I mean and I really believe that," Flynn tells Braver. "I think I'll write other good books. I have come to accept the fact that this is a great, shining, fantastic moment that will never come again. So enjoy it while it lasts."

More than 8.5 million copies of Gone Girl have been sold, and based on the early reviews, expectations for the film are huge

Flynn, a former reporter for Entertainment Weekly, also understands how rare it is for a book author to get a chance at writing a screenplay.

"I thought it was a good script," says director David Fincher. "It's as simple as that. Gillian, she writes like an audience member. She is just that 13-year-old girl with a bucket of popcorn in her lap, watching the movie."

Flynn talks with Braver about her career, her family, and where she finds inspiration for her dark stories.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00-10:30 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
