What if there was a way to improve every low-income school in America, securing students' futures? Is it possible for schools with high percentages of students from low-income families to become high performing? Dr. James A. Johnson Jr. and his co-authors have researched and found a way to improve low-income school systems in the U.S.
Johnson's new book "Getting to Excellence" is full of ideas and research on how to improve educational practices in schools. This is a compelling journey that utilizes quantitative data to take a critical look at the processes involved and the strategies used in America's quest for excellence.
"This book helps teach every educator about the consequences of beliefs, values, attitudes and paradigms for the reconstruction of an academically unacceptable middle-school," Johnson said.
"Getting to Excellence" will assist stakeholders in low-performing schools by teaching them how to enhance and improve their schools, how to achieve acceptance and academic excellence through those who educate and most importantly influencing the children and their community.
"The book is replete with illustrations of weaknesses hidden in abstract policies, institutional persistence and culturally void programs, methodologies and practices," Johnson said.
This book shows the progress and ability to turn a "low performing" school around in one year.
"It is now incumbent upon educators to assure that the school is a place where instructors and leaders are held accountable for the effective instruction of students," Johnson said.
