The question as to where the human species came from centers on two widely discussed views: creation and evolution; the former believed to be the explanation of religious zealots and the latter a result of scientific evidence and reasoning.

But evolutionary science is challenged by author Robert O'Keefe in his book, "Gaining the High Ground over Evolutionism," wherein he explores the topic of origin on philosophical and historical, as well as scientific grounds.

"Immediately, the question arises as to why evolutionary theory attracts so much interest outside of scientific circles and why so many nonscientists seem compelled to take sides on a question that, if it really were strictly a scientific matter, ought to be a concern only of scientists," O'Keefe said. "The topic can no longer remain confined within scientific boundaries."

O'Keefe identifies the assumptions unique to evolutionary science, while noting that the attempt to explain how human beings exist is beyond means of empirical verification.

"Moreover, nothing theorized within scientific boundaries will ever yield a satisfying answer to the 'why' of existence," O'Keefe said. "Reducing the human mind's 'why' questions and its capacity for objectivity to a product of nature is entirely inadequate."
