"Of One Womb: The Essence of Two Families" (published by iUniverse) is the story of James Lee Trucker. The story opens in Louisiana and moves to the suburbs of Los Angeles. Twenty-five years after losing her son to unscrupulous in-laws, Dorothy receives a letter from her son, James Lee, informing her that he wants to meet her, and he would be in LA the next day. With an inter-racial marriage, Dorothy must determine if this man, her son, will be a positive influence on her family, or if his racist attitude will bring them all down.
According to Grigsby, "Of One Womb" addresses "mixed marriages in a way that is real for the reader. This book looks at mixed marriages in a pragmatic way. It scrutinizes many of the obstacles encountered by the participants. But in the end, love can conquer all."
An excerpt from "Of One Womb":
"I love you James Lee. I will always love you. But, I don't like you. I don't like you because you are a threat. A threat to the safety of your brother and sister, my children. I don't like anything that threatens them or who they are to become!" Dorothy's voice took on a hard edge again. "No! I take that back. I don't like bigots! I don't like bigots of any kind even if that bigot is my son."
