On Friday, Fredrik Logevall was presented with the first American Library in Paris Book Award. According to the New York Times, Mr. Logevall won for his book "Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America's Vietnam." The award is to be given to the book the library's jury deems the year's most notable book on France or France's dealings with the United States.
The decision was made by a jury composed of the library's writers' council, that included Adam Gopnik, Julian Barnes, and more. Mr. Logevall was in good company - his fellow nominees included "The Illusion of Separateness," by Simon van Booy; "The Black Count: Glory, Revolution, Betrayal, and the Real Count of Monte Cristo," by Tom Reiss, among others.
