Set for a new marketing campaign, the book tells the story of Daisy, who takes life very seriously. She makes sure she is always immaculately groomed and works very hard at school. She even wants to stay inside doing her homework each day, rather than playing in the park with other kids. But one day, her dad tells her she should have more fun, like her exuberant dog Freddie. The next day, when she takes Freddie for a walk, she learns there is a whole new world of freedom and fun out there.
"This is an amusing story. The naughtiness of Freddie will appeal to young readers," Duncan says. "I would like to take away a feeling of enjoyment, an appreciation of rhyme and an empathy with the main character in the story."
An excerpt from the book reads:
The sandpit was next. To the children's surprise,
Freddie buried his bone and kicked sand in their eyes.
He flopped on the grass and stretched out in the sun.
Daisy lay down beside him and said,'This is fun!'
