Granby, Mass.
Showcasing a powerful potential literary classic, author Frank Sousa releases "The Tree of Young Dreamers", and adult fiction, the first book of a trilogy (published by Xlibris). Sousa explores the tree top fantasies of heroism of teenagers too young to enter WWII but that does not keep them from trying in episodes ranging from 'crying until you laugh' and 'laughing until you cry.'
Imagination yields to ambition and for Johnny DaSilva and his friends, fighting in the war is the ultimate target. Their story unfolds in the backdrop of the Depression. DaSilva is the leader of a fun and imaginative gang that lives out their dreams in the big tree. They whittle away soaring ambitions in its branches and take flight to their imaginary lives. So when the war broke out and chance flirted with dreams, they tried whatever ruse their young minds could think of to get into the marines, army and navy. Unbeknown to these young wannabe heroes, life thrusts far more personal roadblocks and it is only a matter of time before the real adventure begins, including the difference between boys and girls, plus boys and women.
In one extraordinary tale of innocence, passion and subtle realizations, "The Tree of Young Dreamers" takes readers into the chaotic, humorous and joyful qualms of youth. It explores the emotive and rational ways of a time when hope is found in dreams and ambitions are fashioned by faith. Sousa's ingenious storytelling also edifies the intricacies of growing up to instill a timeless truth: whatever one knows about life is learned by 'staring the bull in the eyes'.
Sousa's second novel, called the Tree of Lost Dreams' is soon to be published. 'The Tree of New Roots' will complete the trilogy.

About the Author
Frank Sousa was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. Married to his high school sweetheart, they live in a small Western Massachusetts town. He has been a police reporter, outdoor columnist for the Springfield newspapers, and an active scuba diver, mountain climber, hockey and softball player and adventurer. His college creative writing professor was Ted Hughes of The Hawk in the Rain, later poet laureate of Great Britain. Sylvia Plath of "The Bell Jar" was his great promoter in encouraging Sousa, believing his writing was "wonderful," although she confessed she did not understand it as he "wrote in American." His large family is everything to him and also includes English setters Chumley and Elmer and every stray, dropped-off waif on their country road.
