The Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi took place in 1994 and spanned 100 days. Since 1994, the remains of over 800,000 Tutsi have been recovered, with the number growing as bodies are still turning up.

Both of author Francine Umutesi's parents fled to Burundi, where they gave birth to her and her siblings, before the genocide began in Rwanda. Umutesi now shares her story for the first time in print, in her new book "Forgiveness... The Rwandan Way" (published by AuthorHouse), which chronicles her experiences with the genocidal fallout.

As a teenager, Umutesi moves back to Rwanda, where she experiences firsthand the level of destruction the genocide caused. Throughout "Forgiveness... The Rwandan Way," Umutesi shares her findings in Rwanda as well as the stories of her relatives, living and deceased. She pays tribute to family members lost in the genocide and hopes that by sharing her story she is ensuring that such an event doesn't occur again.

"Despite the differences of all the human kind, we all are the same and we all bleed," Umutesi says. "What happens to others will someday, somehow have consequences on us. In this global world we live in, I want to encourage readers to get to know the problems and the challenges of others, as it is only then that we can grow ourselves spiritually, politically and socially."
