Fox Cities Book Festival Welcomes Over 60 Authors

With the event officially kicking off today, the Fox Cities Book Festival is prepared to welcome more than 60 authors and poets in the next week as the sixth-annual celebration of reading, writing and community conversation takes place in Northeast Wisconsin.

The 2013 Fox Cities Book Festival features four New York Times best-selling authors among its headliners:

• Lisa Genova, trained neuroscientist and novelist - "Still Alice," " Left Neglected" and "Love Anthony"
• Lisa Scottoline, author of many thriller titles and president of the Mystery Writers of America - "Save Me," "Think Twice" and her newest release, "Don't Go"
• Richard Louv, journalist and nature writer - "Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder" and "The Nature Principle: Human Restoration and the End of Nature-Deficit Disorder"
• Michael Perry, humorist and memoir writer - "Visiting Tom," "Population 485" and "Truck: A Love Story"

A variety of author events will be held throughout the week to join readers and writers in face-to-face conversation and promote the exchange of ideas. These include workshops, readings and poetry sessions at schools, libraries, coffee houses and other venues across the community. The Festival will also feature a fundraising concert with an encore performance by Wisconsin favorite Michael Perry and The Long Beds.

A special pre-Festival event kicked things off on April 11 with Sharon Draper - National Teacher of the Year and five-time recipient of the Coretta Scott King Literary Award - presenting.

Drawing thousands of participants every year since 2008, the Fox Cities Book Festival has become a popular event in Wisconsin. "It's wonderful to see the excitement build and watch as this event continues to connect the entire community through the simple act of reading," said Jeff Kuepper, president of the Festival.

Kuepper said the annual author line-up is meant to inspire readers of all ages and genres. "With over 60 authors representing everything from children's books to historical fiction and mystery novels, there really is something for everyone."
