Former CNN Anchor Releases Children's Book, THE WILKIE READER

Former CNN news anchor Jim Wilkerson clearly understands the power of words, after having spent much of his life in broadcasting. Hence, when he saw some neighborhood children who could not read and did not want to try because it was boring and later discovered that they liked children's poetry, he thought of combining poetry and instructions to address America's concern about illiteracy. The result is his rhyming, colorful children's education book, titled The Wilkie Reader.

The Wilkie Reader may be the funniest way ever to learn the alphabet. The book's cleverly rhyming letter descriptions are not only a joy to children but are also perfect tools for any adults who wish to learn English. Each letter "lesson" can be enhanced by asking the learners to use the letter or letters in random items around the room. "How many d's do you see?" "Door, dog, dime, donut, and den" would be good answers. As the students advance, parents and educators could ask for items with the letter sound somewhere else in the word. "Where else is the d?" "Body, food, red" would be good examples.

About the Author

Jim Wilkerson was a CNN news anchor from 1980 to 1984. He wrote many nationally published columns on the dumb things people say in broadcast news. He was a broadcaster from college at USC until retirement. He was a DJ, newsman, sports announcer, football, hockey announcer, TV sports announcer and TV anchorman in Albuquerque, Atlanta, and finally a TV reporter in San Diego. Wilkerson also authored "Joey and the Threeep!"
