JUNCTION CITY, Kan.
Sarah M. Jackson has recently released a new book detailing her remarkable experiences serving as an army officer on a violent crossroads near the Afghanistan and Pakistan border. "The Devil Dealt The Cards" (published by Xlibris) examines war through human eyes as it tells a powerful story of friendship, female empowerment and the indomitable human spirit.
Captain Jackson served as an operations officer of a logistics battalion stationed on a small Afghan military base. She was not only in charge of the day-to-day operations of her own 700-person unit; she was also the chief officer responsible for training the Afghan National Army soldiers located on Gamberi Garrison.
In "The Devil Dealt The Cards," Captain Jackson describes how she and her team engaged in training Afghanistan's greenest soldiers, her experiences living among the natives, and the unexpected friendship, humor and camaraderie she found in the midst of danger and the rigors of military service. The author hopes that this firsthand account will show readers the human side of war as well as the struggles and successes of those embroiled in it.
"I wrote this book to share the incredible story of Gamberi Garrison," Captain Jackson says. "America needs a true picture of what life is like for the troops on a personal level and all that they are accomplishing."
