"Grief is a River: A Personal Meditation on Being" (published by Partridge Singapore) is a story of triumph following the experience of author Fay Marie McDonald through the challenges life has thrown her way and her determination to live beyond them. The synchronicity of unexpected happenings take her to pathways that are just miraculously there, helping her find hope in ways she once would not have believed possible.
In 1977, McDonald's son was lost in a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal while sailing with the skipper of the Crusader and five other young people from all parts of the world. Her son was never found, and the timing of this loss coincided with the folding of her marriage and the end of her financial security - all happening at the same time was almost overwhelming.
"Grief is a River" chronicles the journey McDonald has taken on a very jagged road, finding determination to hold onto a belief in herself and the joy of honoring and celebrating her son in a life well lived.
Grief holds McDonald in a tender, curious respect for life; a protective love of her daughters. Creativity gave her strength, holding to universal truths and love with gentleness and generosity.
