Ernestine Rice Releases 'Mr. Peacock' to Teach Tolerance

Author Ernestine Rice wants young readers to know there is no shame in being different. In her new children's book, "Mr. Peacock" (published by AuthorHouse), Rice crafts a tale that is at times funny and sad, but overall uplifting.

In the book, Mr. Peacock loses one of his multicolored feathers. His search for the missing feather involves other animals from his home in the forests of Jackson, Miss., who help him learn to trust others and appreciate the differences of his peers.

"The illustrations are eye-catching, the words are heartfelt and it teaches a lesson that there is no shame in being different," Rice says. "It shows the same things happening in schools, homes, churches and neighborhoods due to the lack of respect being taught (to children). You must have a heart to love and that is the aspect I am portraying in this book."

"So you see, it doesn't matter how large or how small the critters might be, or how different they are, they can be good friends. When one is in trouble, they are all in trouble and will come to the aid of the other, because when one of God's creatures suffers, they all suffer. Mr. Peacock became the king and their leader of the forest because of his lost tail feather and they all remained friends forever. The forest is now full of friends, with Mr. Peacock trying to think of a way to bring all the animals together as one big, happy family."
