NEW YORK

Author Emma Gomez's life journey took her from humble beginnings in the rural mountains of Yabucoa in Puerto Rico to the bustling streets and fast-paced lifestyle of New York City. Gomez chronicles this and other life-changing moments in her memoir, "Emma Gomez: A Courageous Woman Displays True Grit" (published by iUniverse).

Currently, Gomez's book is in the beginning stages of adaptation to a screenplay for submission to Thruline Entertainment. This screenplay submission may result in a television or film adaptation of Gomez's story.

Gomez's autobiographical story paints a vivid portrait of her modest upbringing in the Puerto Rican mountain town of Yabucoa. She provides readers with a clear perspective on what it meant to grow up in an early 1930s rural area - without toys, electricity, shoes or a proper bed - within a family whose encouragement of Gomez's future plans never wavered.

In concise, chronological vignettes, Gomez depicts memories of her childhood, her family and her schooling in Puerto Rico, which collectively lead up to her account of leaving her birthplace in 1953 for a new career and life in New York City.

Gomez says her memoir is a true story of facing one's trials and meeting one's goals. Her main desire is to share her story with others who may have similar circumstances to her own and motivate them to improve their quality of life.

"I would like readers to feel inspired to improve their quality of life and to understand that success doesn't come easily," Gomez says. "It involves a certain degree of sacrifice. I hope they can use my experiences as learning tools to find ways to reach their goals."
