The inspiration for Elizabeth Newton's new Christian science fiction/fantasy novel, "Train Flight: Moon Man" (published by Trafford Publishing) came from her love of the wildly successful BBC television series, "Doctor Who."

"I am a big 'Doctor Who' fan and to be honest, I was inspired a lot by the structure of this television show," Newton states, "But as a story writer, I am often thinking of my own twists and turns for the story, and I end up feeling frustrated when they don't happen. So, the cure for this was to simply write my own series." Newton adds that, "It is important to note here that I've tried as best I can to make my stories unique and very much apart from 'Doctor Who.'"

The "Train Flight" series tells the story of a man who owns a space and time-traveling steam train who takes passengers for the rides of their lives, featuring terrifyingly wonderful adventures and revealing the wonder and glory of God along the way. The characters who travel on the train often have some personal demons to face, mountains to climb and important lessons to learn.

This first book of the series, "Moon Man," is about a certain 14-year-old girl named Evie, who tumbles unsuspectingly onto the train and into an adventure which will test her boldness, her faith and her courage in being honest and facing her metaphorical monsters.

Newton, being a Christian, and a fan of science fiction/fantasy, explores what space and time travel might be like, with all the monsters and aliens included, but also with the presence of an all-seeing, omnipresent, loving, compassionate God. She embeds real life problems and situations within her stories (particularly those faced by primary age children and teenagers) and communicates Christian values and morals in order to address them.

Her writing is lighthearted and whimsical, but at the same time, mysterious and suspenseful. There are some serious enemies to face, obstacles to get past and lessons to learn.
