Corporal Jacques Viator, wounded shortly after D-Day, returns to his Louisiana rice farm thinking the war for him is over. His Hero's Welcome quickly turns from jubilation to horror as he awakens on the first morning to the sound of German men's voices and believes himself to be shell shocked. His wife Adele and his Cajun Papa have waited too late to tell their beloved soldier that the shortage of farm workers has forced them to use German POWs. What happens next sets Jacques and his family on a tumultuous journey to forgiveness and peace.

Rosalind Foley kept her passion for writing by publishing short stories, essays and poetry while raising a large family. When the last child entered school she was able to begin research for this novel. She spent two years assisting Professor Mathew J. Schott documenting the little known history of thousands of German POWs held in Louisiana during World War II.
