Burleson, Texas
Author Edward Moldenhauer kicked off his Spin the Globe series with an educational voyage to the Australian Outback in the 2014 book "Spin the Globe: The Incredible Adventures of Frederick von Wigglebottom: Dreamtime in Alice Springs" (published by Trafford Publishing).
This year, Moldenhauer's book is being promoted by way of a print advertisement in the worldwide media distributor Ingram's monthly flagship industry catalog, Advance. Advance is a comprehensive trade catalog featuring hardcover, paperback, audiobook and mass market titles with purchase details for its recipients. Moldenhauer's "Dreamtime in Alice Springs" title appears in the January-February edition of Advance.
Education is important to Moldenhauer. He frequently tells his children bedtime stories and welcomes them to spin a globe, locating a spot in the world about which he tells a story. These stories come to life in his new Spin the Globe series, which has grown to four volumes since its inception.
The first title in the series teaches young readers about topics such as Aboriginal culture, paintings, traditions and history. Frederick von Wigglebottom acts as the story's guide, along with an Arrernte tribe member named George, and Madeline, the daughter of a European historian.
"Australia has always intrigued me, and I think it does many people," Moldenhauer says. "However, I did want to select an area that truly juxtaposed and had the interaction of two separate cultures - that of the Aboriginal people and those transplanted from Europe."
