Most of the time, author Edmund Wong is a thinker and a dreamer. A thinker would be what most would call a philosopher and a dreamer is what most would call a bumper or a slacker. To combine all these three words together-thinker, dreamer and philosopher-he came up with the idea for this book-Post-punk perception: Living in the Social Milieu.

A thinker can be ethical. A dreamer can be ethical. Finally a philosopher can be productive simply by thinking about the many possibilities in life. Life, to him, consists of science, politics, economy, love and ethics, as well as a little religious thought and experimentation.

Religion does not give Edmund Wong the fulfillment that it promised. In addition, most were based on Singaporeans' interpretation of the Bible and Buddhism's dharma. Most times, he feels that everything that Singaporeans do has to do with wealth creation or at least with the expenditure of it. It ends up like what Pope Francis referred to as "the cult of money." Organised religion involves more fear-mongering than cultivating an inner grace and peace.

Hence this book is about how he relates an ancient thinker's ethics (Aristotle) to the present day. He finds Aristotle's ethics to most suit his needs as a man and lover. It does not pretend to be more than what it seeks, which involves the golden mean. However, it does require people to think and explore the values to find balance and achieve wisdom with intellectual and moral virtues. He also finds other philosophers particularly insightful and thought-provoking. They offer him explanation and exploration on subjects like love, sex, and death.

His wish is simply to share what he enjoys doing, apart from creating useful ideas to improve the world that we are living in. Through Post-punk perception: Living in the Social Milieu, he hopes to make others understand religion, science and philosophy and how they play an increasingly integral part in the Asian century.
