Author Earl Russell shares the true stories of a tough childhood followed by a lifetime of travel and adventure in his new memoir, "Chasing My Tail" (published by iUniverse).

"This story is about happiness and sorrow, accomplishment and failure, pride and shame," Russell writes. When he was just 2 years old, he was sent to live in a foster home after his mother died. Banished from the foster home at age 15, Russell spent the next several years feeling desperate and aimless.

Russell's life was forever changed when he turned to the military for salvation and structure, becoming one of the youngest platoon sergeants in the Korean War at age 18. For the next 20 years, he served in the Army and Air Force and traveled to 36 countries.

"Chasing My Tail" takes readers across the world with Russell as he details the highlights and heartbreaks of a young man thrown into war and travel. Alternately humorous, romantic and poignant, this memoir ultimately speaks to the power of home and family.
