It all started in early 2014 when Sally Lawton of The Cottage approached Charles Mohr of Eagle Studios with an idea for a new project. During the meeting Charles was handed an original copy of the 1896 - The Night Before Christmas or a Visit from St. Nicholas, published by the McLoughlin Brothers of New York. Original copies of this book are very rare and command a high price in the antique book collectors market.
A deal was struck and the project began. The most important part of this book restoration project was maintaining the original look and feel, but remove all the imperfections that had caused deterioration over the past 100 years. The book was literally falling apart in Charles's hands. Using high resolution digital technology, 300 DPI scans were made and the editing process began. "I did not realize how bad the pages were until I opened the first digital file," said Charles. Using color and pattern elements from each of the pages, every detail was restored with perfection. Recently Charles stated "For me, The Night Before Christmas or a Visit from St. Nicholas was a labor of love. Bringing back to life a piece of history that has affected so many lives throughout the years and knowing this work will continue Christmas traditions is why I took on the project. The preservation of antiquities is so important to maintain our culture and traditions."Videos
