In the poetry collection "Even If I'm Not Here" (published by Archway Publishing), author Gabby Baba examines human experience and sexuality.
"It's about expressing humans' most untouchable moments and experiences with stark imagery and a poetic voice without necessarily exposing or concealing it," Baba says, explaining that she was inspired by others. "People in my life that I've shared different experiences with have influenced me, and random people I have encountered. I always learn more about myself through the eyes of others. It's a very powerful awakening."
Baba says the book deals with experiences about sexuality and utilizing it for self-identity, but most importantly, learning to navigate the world with a sense of hope. Also, readers will be able to relate to the experiences of tragedy, dysfunction, relationships and family depicted in the poems throughout.
An excerpt from "Even If I'm Not Here":
He was nothing more than a dark chasm,
a velvet rope leading me to a bottomless pit.
There were days I mourned being the
flesh built around your bones.
I say crystal;
You think glass.
You say glass;
I think ghost.
