According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 10 million single mothers lived with children under 18 in 2011, which is up from 3.4 million in 1970. As divorce becomes less taboo, parents try to do what's best for them and their children. For E. Stoddard, divorce meant a new start for her and her son. Stoddard's new memoir, "Mom's The Word: A Memoir of Love and Survival" (published by iUniverse), reflects on challenges she faced as a single mother trying to balance work with raising her young son.

"Writing the book helped me to put all of this into a more balanced perspective," says Stoddard. "It's the survival of eight siblings, one alcoholic husband, seven nannies and one fat, humorous beagle."

Part travelogue, part guide to choosing a nanny, "Mom's The Word" follows the adventures of Stoddard, her son and their fat beagle as they lean on each other through one nanny after another. As a traveling business woman, Stoddard and her son find themselves in exotic locations like India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe, learning that even life's heartaches can have a silver lining.

Readers will laugh along with Stoddard as she reveals the humorous side of divorce and single motherhood. She says, "It's not what we are dealt in life, it's how we deal with it!"
