As a Christian psychiatrist, author Dwight Carlson spent his entire career lending compassionate help to people struggling with issues of faith. Week after week in the pews of his church, Carlson began to realize that a body of crucial spiritual information wasn't being communicated to the average person. After observing this trend for many years, Carlson began extensive theological research. He presents his findings in his new book, "Who'll Be in Heaven and Who Won't."
"After studying Scripture carefully I realized that many religious groups either have a narrower or broader view of who will be in heaven than is justified," Carlson says. "My research shows that every person will be judged initially on the basis of his or her faith and then secondarily on how they have lived their life."
In the book, Carlson addresses the parochial and universal views of who will be allowed into heaven. Carlson carves out a middle ground between both extremes and supports this assertion with pertinent Scripture. He also addresses many related hard-hitting questions.
"I'm opening the pearly gates wider than is comfortable for many," Carlson says. "I am not a Universalist who believes that all people will go to heaven and I don't believe that the gates are closed to all but a select few. My research has shown that there is a middle position."
