Newton, in his universal Law of Gravity, used observations of the planets in the solar system, but without access to observations at large distances in the cosmos. Hubble, much later in the early 1900s observed the fixed stars in the sky and showed that they were vast collections of very remote galaxies. The common speculation that Newton's Universal Law of Gravity applied to observations at cosmic distances, led to the mystery of Dark Matter to supply the missing gravity. Observations by Vera Rubin of the constant velocity of stars in remote spiral galaxies showed that they were not in agreement with Newton's law for our solar system, and led Aisenberg to show that the cosmic observations can be explained, by simply adding a term linear with separation to the gravitational constant, and would also agree with observations in our solar system. This shows that Newton's Universal Law of Gravity should be easily extended to include cosmic separations, and thus removes the need for Dark Matter.
A more serious error was caused by the speculation that Hubble's redshifts showed that the remote galaxies were receding with increasing velocity but without direct observation of the velocity. This resulted in speculations that the universe is expanding and that there was a big bang. Aisenberg shows that the redshift for cosmic separations is not due to velocity but is due to the effect of cosmic gravity draining energy from the traveling photons, and that there is no need for Dark Energy.

About the Author
The author, Dr. Sol Aisenberg earned a PhD in Physics from MIT, with a minor in math, was a part time staff member in the MIT physics department and in the Research Lab of Electronics, RLE, and was a part-time lecturer at the Harvard Medical School and a part-time visiting research professor of bioengineering in Boston University. Aisenberg was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi (science), and Pi Mu Epsilon (math) honor societies.
