Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr., CEO of the R.B. Pamplin Corporation, has released a new catalog showcasing highlights from his diverse and historically significant art collection. A carefully curated selection is represented in the 2012 exhibit catalog and contains many historically significant pieces, such as works by Asher Durand and Dennis Malone Carter. These and other acquisitions have made the Dr. and Mrs. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. International Collection of Art and History one of the country's top private collections by value.

New Catalog Showcases "The Riches of the Collection"

Now available online, the 2012 exhibit of the Pamplin International Collection of Art and History delves into "The Riches of the Collection," honing in on objects that best depict the depth and breadth of Pamplin's acquisitions. Numbering more than 100,000 pieces, the Pamplin Collection features works in a variety of categories, including the Wild West, George Washington, Civil War, military history, fine art/European art, Native American, Chinese art, and furniture and decorative arts.

According to Chet Orloff, manager of the Pamplin Collection, "The new catalog features a number of truly remarkable pieces, showcasing some of the most significant works of art exhibited in 2012."

Noteworthy pieces include Durand's painting, "Boating on the Fourth of July," which underscores his significance in America's art history by helping to found the Hudson River School. Also, Carter's study for a painting of "Molly Pitcher at the Battle of Monmouth" serves as an iconic image of the American Revolution. In Pamplin's Wild West collection, a pair of specially-ordered, pearl-gripped, single-action 0.45-caliber Colt pistols belonging to Bob and Frank Dalton recall the Dalton Gang's attempted bank robbery in Coffeyville, Kan.

For more than 40 years, Pamplin has been dedicated to collecting antiquities and works of art that illuminate distinct periods in history, diverse cultures and iconic individuals. Parts of Dr. Pamplin's collection have been exhibited in museums around the country, and more can be experienced online at www.pamplin.org, where exhibits are rotated for public view.
