GARDENA, Calif. - Known as the "Dr. Welby of the ghetto," Dr. James A. Mays shares the work that is being done in Watts, Los Angeles. The influence he has in the small neighborhood, located within the famous Californian city, is a step to making "Los Angeles Promenade of Prominence" (published by Xlibris).
Dr. Mays started the Watts' version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame after realizing that the area needed a shot of confidence after gaining a national reputation as a symbol of a neglected community. Mays try to turn that perception around by establishing similar sidewalk monuments in cities nationwide.
As a physician who is widely recognized for his philanthropic works and his enlightening talks and walks, Dr. Mays continues his cause of educating prostitutes, "street people" and the youth to transform the once neglected place to a thriving community.
"Los Angeles Promenade of Prominence" is a fitting tribute to Watts' Promenade of Prominence which honors neighborhood heroes and community leaders.
