In "Stroke! A Daughter's Story: Trials and Triumphs Caring for a Father with Aphasia" (published by Trafford Publishing), author and artist Doris Thurston shares her emotional story of caring for her stroke-victim father and aging mother through poetry and prose, inspiring other caregivers to never give up.

"The story is presented in incident-like poetry with titles, which enable the reader to discover a relevant subject," explains Thurston. "Twenty-four drawings depict stages in my father's rehabilitation. Nineteen poems reveal the emotions experienced by the patient and caregiver with which the reader can identify."

When her father suffered a devastating stroke that left him partially paralyzed and unable to communicate, Thurston moved into her parents home to help her aging mother care for her father. What follows over the next five years is Thurston's amazing story as she cares for her helpless father and a mother whose health is deteriorating quickly. With love of her family, Thurston finds the strength to carry her immense burden with grace and dignity.

"Stroke! A Daughter's Story" is both a touching memoir and a practical guide for caregivers of stroke victims. Thurston's advice and emotional support serves to bring comfort to others caring for loved ones.

To inspire her readers and other caregivers, Thurston says, "The deepest pit has the highest cry. The more you suffer the richer you are. Helping another is the greatest gift you can give to yourself and to others."
