Author Doris Gooch's life has not always been as straight and smooth as a highway; there have been plenty of curves and zigzags along the way. Her new book, "The Zigzag Road" (published by Trafford Publishing), transforms her feelings about life into a long-form poem.

Like Robert Frost's road less travelled by, Gooch's road is a metaphor for her life, while the hills represent the obstacles people face in their daily lives. Despite the many twists and turns she experienced, Gooch remains grateful for the zigs and zags and where they led her.

Vividly illustrated, "The Zigzag Road" reminds readers to be open-minded and optimistic about the zigs and zags in their own roads. Through her book, Gooch hopes to convey a message of hope.

"We travel through this life facing different struggles," Gooch says. "Yet we come out on the other side with a better sense of directions."

"An excerpt from "The Zigzag Road":

"The sense of reality nudged my nose;
There were more zigs and zags than I proposed,
I loved that road with its zigs and zags
What unbelievable tales it told."
