MONETA, Va.

Following the successful release of his riveting war narrative, "Escape to the Sky" author Donald E. Fink resumes the journey of his dauntless pilot hero, Ben Findlay, with the release of "Return from the Abyss" (published by Xlibris). This sequel follows Ben as he embarks on epic aerial battles and an exhilarating escape from captivity in a German POW camp on his remarkable odyssey into manhood.

"Return from the Abyss" is an action-packed, historically-accurate novel tracing the experiences of a young Michigan farm boy who flies combat missions as a volunteer pilot in the Spanish Civil War, with the British Royal Air Force early in World War 2, and finally as a B-17 pilot for the U.S. Army Air Forces through the end of the war. Ben is thrust into manhood early as he is shot down twice and held briefly as a prisoner of war before escaping back to England.

Suffused with gripping action, "Return from the Abyss" is a personal look at the sacrifices made by a generation of young men when confronted with the challenges and dangers of modern warfare. "Although they faced death on a daily basis," says Fink, "they were driven by a strong sense of duty and devotion to their comrades-in-arms and accomplished great deeds of bravery at very early ages." Release of the book coincides with the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the Second World War and the victory in Europe on the eighth of the May.

At once poignant and inspiring, "Return from the Abyss" is a delightful tribute to the lives of countless young men who fought and risked their lives to secure the freedom of their home lands.
