Disney/ABC Television Group is partnering with First Book and Disney Publishing Worldwide to share the power of great stories with children in need around the country by putting 200,000 brand new books into their hands. The Literacy Campaign runs February 3rd through March 31st.
If you work with kids in need, or want to help a school or program in your community connect to an ongoing supply of new books, visit "www.firstbook.org/BeInspired.
Eligible nominees include any Title I (or Title I eligible) school, any program serving at least 70% kids in need, including after-school programs, shelters and clinics, libraries and early childhood programs as well as all Head Start programs and any organization serving primarily children with disabilities or children from military families.
Having books to read - at home and in the classroom - is the number one predictor of reading success. But the reality for millions of children from low-income families is that books are an unaffordable luxury. Without books, and the Intervention of great programs and schools, these children are at risk of falling behind in the classroom, the workplace and beyond.
