NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ Data, discovery and SEO are hot topics in the book, content and tech communities, and each will be covered by top experts in a variety of presentations at the 7th Annual Digital Book World Conference + Expo (DBW). In addition, Data Guy (@authorearnings), one of the most intriguing and quietly influential figures in the book community, will take the stage for the first time and provide useful insights into important "known unknowns," while also showing how creative data hacks can help expand the book, content and technology communities' understanding of the digital publishing business. DBW 2016 takes place March 7 9, 2016 at the New York Hilton Midtown in N.Y.C. Registration and program details are available at digitalbookworldconference.com (the best early-bird rates expire Dec. 15).
DBW 2016 (@DigiBookWorld - #DBW16) is the premier event for book publishers and content providers of all sizes and business models that plan to thrive through and beyond publishing's digital transformation. At the event, the most practical, relevant and actionable strategies will be shared.
Outside the Data Box
Data Guy's first-ever session, a main-stage presentation at DBW 2016, is titled, "Outside the Data Box: Taking a Fresh Look at Ebook Sales, the Indie-Publishing Market, and a Fast-Changing Publishing Business."
Data Guy is the tech and data wizard behind the Author Earnings website, produced in conjunction with Hugh Howey (@hughhowey), and he oversees Author Earnings' data scraping and analysis. His DBW 2016 session is primarily a presentation of some his latest findings and processes, with an eye towards what would be most interesting and relevant for an audience comprising trade publishers. At the end of the presentation, there will be a short conversation with Michael Cader (@PublishersLunch), founder of Publishers Lunch and PublishersMarketplace.com.
Mike Shatzkin (@MikeShatzkin), DBW conference chair and founder of The Idea Logical Company, says, "While Data Guy's Author Earnings website focuses on what independent authors earn from ebook sales, he will help DBW attendees hack their way to a deep understanding of the many statistical unknowns of Amazon's growing but opaque marketplace, including market share for self-published and Amazon Publishing titles, the effect of Kindle Unlimited, how ebook pricing affects Big Five sales, and more."
In addition to the main-stage presentation, there will be a Q&A session with Data Guy, where DBW conference attendees can ask questions and glean more insights.
Shatzkin and Cader are DBW's partners from Publishers Launch Conferences two of book publishing's most respected analysts of the industry's digital transition.
Discovery and SEO
Also on the roster of prominent thought leaders and innovators, Rand Fishkin(@randfish) will discuss "Understanding SEO in a Global, Local and Mobile World."
Fishkin is co-founder of MOZ (the most useful and widely-used SEO tool available). He'll deliver valuable information on search and SEO, discussing the two most important current topics for search optimization: local and mobile.
"Search engine optimization and understanding how to have books and authors 'discovered' has increasingly become a focus for book publishers," explains Shatzkin. "The new role in publishing houses, overseeing 'audience insight,' is largely about understanding SEO, so we're thrilled to learn more from Fishkin, who's been a leading thinker and blogger about SEO for years."
In addition to his Main Stage appearance at DBW 2016, Fishkin will also do a break-out Q&A session, where attendees can get their specific discovery challenges addressed. The session is titled, "SEO Q&A: A Conversation with Rand Fishkin About Optimizing for Search and Discovery." During this 50-minute Q&A moderated by Peter McCarthy DBW attendees can ask questions about optimizing their books and authors. McCarthy is co-founder and principal of Logical Marketing Agency, in which he is also partnered with Mike Shatzkin.
"There will never be an opportunity to get your SEO questions answered with greater authority than in this DBW Q&A session with Rand Fishkin," notes Shatzkin.
Overall, DBW 2016 is packed with sessions offering a comprehensive overview of the big changes and new challenges of today's digital publishing landscape. The event features an array of visionaries and influencers both publishing leaders and pundits from outside the industry who'll share insights about the digital-driven, global content market and how to capitalize on every opportunity.
Highlights of other presenters scheduled for DBW 2016 include: Scott Galloway (@profgalloway), clinical professor of marketing at NYU Stern School of Business; Jon Taplin (@JonathanTaplin), professor of media studies, University of Southern California; Virginia Heffernan (@page88), author and journalist, frequently writing at Medium and The New York Times Magazine; John Ingram, chairman and CEO, Ingram Content Companies; Mary Ann Naples (@manaples), senior vice president and publisher, Rodale Books and Rodale Wellness; and Jonathan Kanter, an antitrust attorney at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft (@Cadwalader), among others.
