QUINCY, Mass. - The more author Derek Hirst witnesses current events and sees how they are recorded by historians, the more skeptical and fascinated he became of past historical accounts. Hirst shares a few sentiments as to what he thinks of this phenomenon that unfolds before his very eyes in "Truths, Half Truths and Bovine Scatology," (published by Xlibris) a book that is based on what he considers as questionable historical events.

This book is meant to be controversial, but above all, humorous. It speaks of today's societal issues in a negative manner and seeks to present a humorous account of Hirst's partly controversial analysis of recent events. It traces the roots of history by examining account from the beginning, The Book of Genesis.

"From a religious standpoint, my book is not aimed at the devout but at the fence sitters and even non-believers," Hirst explains. "As I wrote this book, on all subjects, whether it is Mathematics, Geography and others, Religion is the most important because it relates to eternity. Hopefully, it will make readers think twice."

Hirst attempts to draw attention to numerous instances where he sees a confliction. For him, it is incumbent upon readers, if there are any, to place them into which category they think they fall-those being "Truths, Half-Truths, and Bovine Scatology."

About the Author
Derek Hirst spent two years in technical school, after which he proceeded to The Royal Ordinance Factory in Blackburn, Lancashire, England and worked as a craft apprentice. He spent 48 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On his arrival at MIT, Hirst and his wife rented an apartment in Brighton with a view to buying a house where they could settle permanently. He chose Quincy because it is accessible to MIT and it was a perfect place for raising a family. He is honored to sing The Presidential Wreath-Laying Ceremonies on the birthdays of both John Adams and John Quincy Adams with The Quiny Choral Society (QCS) each year, at The United First Parish Church, or the Church of the Presidents, where both, along with their wives, are buried. The QCS perform their three main concerts each year at The Sacred Heart Parish in North Quincy where Hirst is a long time chorister.
