SMITH STATION, Ala.

Author Denver D. Smith's book, "A Beautiful Life Cut Short by Early Onset Alzheimer's: Marcia's Journey" (published by Trafford Publishing), has been selected for inclusion in the Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.

Denver D. Smith's wife, Marcia, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's when she was just 49. Over the course of 13 years, he cared for her in their home and provided the daily support she needed as a mother and wife coping with such a debilitating disease.

Providing Alzheimer's caregivers with a detailed physical and emotional timeline of the illness, Smith's book chronicles their journey through daily reflections that detail Marcia's battle. In an effort to help others better prepare for each difficult stage, Smith's daily insights emphasize not only the possible timelines, but also the personal effects on both the caregiver and the person experiencing the illness.

Praise for "A Beautiful Life Cut Short by Early Onset Alzheimer's: Marcia's Journey":

"He recognizes that, frustrating as the process was, he was not dealing with the person he loved, but with the results of her disease. His book, though undeniably sad, may still serve as an inspiration and a guide to relatives of Alzheimer's victims, and may encourage them to keep a journal of their own experiences as a path to emotional healing."
