Combine geology, faith, murder and forgiveness, and you have the recipe for an intriguing and inspiring read in Delores Haltom's new book, The Stonecutter: How the Word Became Flesh.

Set in Southern Indiana, home to one of the largest supplies of limestone, The Stonecutter explores the importance of limestone to the development of many cities in the United States. In addition, Haltom parallels the use of limestone to the importance of stone throughout Christianity and need for a strong foundation in faith.

The novel tells the story of an outsider and a community of interesting townspeople, each carrying their own burden. Whether it is loss, anger, revenge or undeserved wrongs, Haltom reveals the true power of faith and forgiveness through her characters' struggles.

"I wrote this book to encourage others to find faith," said Haltom. "I also wanted to share the significant impact that stone, in the book's case limestone, has had on both Christianity and the building of the United States."
