Henry and Chiffon are the unlikeliest of friends. He is drawn to plastic flowers and checklists. She wants to save the world and is tolerant of most everyone, except herself. Henry is all about predictability and following a plan, while Chiffon is usually late and has trouble holding down a job. Both are flawed in the unseen ways of ordinary people.
As fate leads Henry and Chiffon to meet over the counter at Stan’s Deli, where she has just secured yet another job, they initially tolerate each other during their twice-weekly transactions. As Henry becomes more comfortable with her service and Chiffon becomes more comfortable with his predictable order, they slowly become friends despite their differences.
“I read an article about the numbers of words people use and began to think about the kind of person who would count words,” said Holmes. “As that character took shape, I began to think there was a story in it.”
“Arriving in Time for Dinner” shares the poignant tale of two ordinary people whose unlikely friendship changes their lives in extraordinary ways.
