As medical care gets more complex, physicians often do not have the time to explain to children what is happening and why That is why the author Deborah Lee, MD, PhD has written "Is My Brain Broken?" (published by Xlibris) as a way to teach kids about neurological diseases and how to manage them.

"Is My Brain Broken?" is a book for children by children who have been diagnosed with both common and uncommon neurologic disorders. It can be used by children diagnosed with neurological disorders, their family, schoolmates, teachers, librarians and anyone who finds these children under their care. It also provides easy to understand information on the brain, neurological disorders and how children with these disorders see themselves. In addition, the children, now adults, provide insights into how these disorders continue to affect their lives.

The main theme of this book is to provide information to children diagnosed with a neurological disorder by both a pediatric neurologist at a level they can understand as well as other children who have experienced these disorders.

In the spirit of the book, the cover art was provided by a 7-year-old trying to understand why two of her siblings have seizures and she does not, and the internal drawings were provided by an eleven-year-old with ADD. This guide should prove useful to children with a neurological disease, as well as to their family and friends, teachers, physicians, scout leaders and other adults who will find these children in their care.
