In her new book, "Holy Communion: The Blessing That Heals" (published by WestBow Press), author DeBorah Denson McCray challenges readers to accept truths about the Christian rite of Holy Communion: that they don't need to examine themselves before partaking and understand that healing power is available through faith in the finished work of Christ.

"Taking Holy Communion is a glorious gift of grace for our healing," McCray says. "The two elements: the bread and the fruit of the vine, are given for our well-being and forgiveness of sins. We enjoy this wonderful gift because of Jesus' finished work on the cross only - not by anything we do."

An excerpt from "Holy Communion":

"Why do you suppose we have such questions? Could it be that we've seen some people get healed and others not? We can't look to people's experiences to explain why some are healed and some are not. We must look to the cross. For as surely as Jesus carried away our sins, He also carried our sicknesses and diseases. Let's continue to build this truth on a solid foundation."

McCray's ultimate goal is to bring peace and hope to her readers. "Many readers, or their loved ones, may be suffering from an illness and are looking to the Bible for hope. 'Holy Communion' offers that hope," she says.
